Calculating your age in years is simple. However, calculating your age in exact months, total days, hours, and minutes is a complex programming challenge. This calculation requires precise calendar mathematics to handle variations in month lengths and leap years.
Accounting for Leap Years
The standard Gregorian calendar year is 365 days, but the Earth actually takes approximately 365.2425 days to orbit the sun. To correct this, we add a leap day (February 29th) every 4 years, with a specific rule: * Centenary years (like 1800, 1900, 2100) are **not** leap years, unless they are divisible by 400 (like 2000). When calculating age in total days, a program must count the exact number of leap years that have occurred during the individual's lifetime to provide an accurate count.
